Clutches, Chaos & Champions: When Murugi’s Base Turned Into a Battlefield

Happy Easter, my beloved readers.
Now before anyone says anything, let me just remind you—mimi kitu haiwezi nipita ni form. Some of us were born to struggle, others to survive, but me? Clearly I was created to live a fan life. A professional spectator. A full-time vibes consultant.
But today is not about my greatness, even though it deserves its own holiday.
This is yet another Kwa Murugi’s Classic, proudly sponsored by Mann Insurance and the CEO herself, because excellence apparently travels with backup.
Let me confess, this whole thing was unplanned. I got one of those “kuja tu” calls that either lead to free entertainment or questionable decisions. Before I could even think twice, a not-so-familiar guy was at my place ready to pick me up like I’m some guest of honour. I didn’t ask questions. In Meru, you enter the car first, then you ask God for direction later. Big thanks to CEO Bloko and Bwana Mutuma for that VIP treatment.
Murugi’s Base, as usual, did not disappoint. If vibes were a business, this place would be listed on the stock exchange. The format was simple—four teams, four players each, best of three. Murugi’s Base came through with two teams, Gitimbine showed up ready, and Mikocheni… well, they also attended. At this point, Murugi’s Base has quietly become Mikocheni’s slaughterhouse. Every visit feels less like competition and more like a scheduled beating.
But as a blogger, I don’t just watch the game. I observe the culture. And the real competition was happening off the table.
The side shows were in plenty. As an Arsenal diehard, I was gifted a cup of beer. Their reasoning? That it’s the only cup Arsenal can win. My people, the disrespect was organized, rehearsed, and delivered with confidence. The banter alone could make you think Churchill Show had relocated to Murugi’s Base.
Then came the moment that turned a good night into a legendary one.
Let me introduce Lewi, the Murugi’s Base captain. When I arrived, he was just there, calm and composed. I greeted him and went about my business, only to later realize the man was on crutches after an accident. Now most people would sit out, maybe offer moral support. Not Lewi.
Every time it was his turn, his cousin would hold the crutches, and the man would step up and play like nothing had happened. Smooth shots, steady hands, full focus. Even the referees, Alex Mutahi alias Ali and Collo Wa Kupanga, allowed the cousin to stay close for support in the true spirit of sportsmanship.
And then the unbelievable happened. Lewi didn’t just participate. He won.
Yes, a man on crutches came, saw, and conquered. If there was ever a moment that proved disability is not inability, this was it. Lewi didn’t just play pool; he made a statement. A loud one.
When the dust settled, Lewi defeated Moses Bundi, also known as BM, in a tight final that ended 2-1 in his favour. He walked away with Ksh 3500, while BM took home Ksh 2000. Justus Mugo secured third place after beating Engineer two sets to nil, earning Ksh 1500, while Engineer settled for Ksh 1000.
For a night that started as an impromptu outing, it delivered everything—competition, laughter, and a story that will be told for a long time.
But this was just a taste of what’s coming. The real showdown is set for 2nd May 2026 at Aquadel Carwash and Auto Spa, courtesy of Aquadel Drinking Water and Mann Insurance. And let me tell you, this one will not be one of those stories people exaggerate later. It will be real fire.
If you missed this one, you already know what to do. Tag that friend who said they would come and then disappeared. Let them see what they missed.
Until the next one, enjoy your Easter holidays and stay where the vibes are.
