Jamhuri day celebrations were put on hold in Meru after the event turned chaotic following clashes between the area county senator and the current Governor supporters.
Trouble began immediately Mr Munya took to the dais at the Meru national Polytechnic where the event was held.

According to sources, the Meru demonstrations were prior arranged going by the number of messages that were circulating in social media platforms before the event.
Police had to shoot in the air on several occasions as both sides tried to outdo each other exchanging blows and kicks.

Donned in Jubilee t-shirts,several youth marched to the field chanting ‘Munya Must go’, the party of national unity supporters which is headed by Governor Munya soon joined in with a similar rhythm shouting ‘Kiraitu must go’.

Shortly after, the venue turned into a warzone as both sides threw chairs and water bottles at each other, forcing the police to intervene.
Meru County Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Jim Njoka had a rough time has he tried to control the warring groups to calm down to allow t his boss read the presidential speech.

The crowd finally gave in allowing the county commissioner to deliver his speech shortly before Mr . Nyagwanga dismissed the crowd calling off the meeting locking out both the senator and the governor from addressing the crowd.

Addressing journalists after the event, Mr Munya blamed the KIKALI outfit for the chaos saying that the event was not a political rally but a national day celebrations.
However, the event organizers are counting loses following mass distraction of property witnessed at the venue.
Mr. Kiraitu is yet to comment on the issue.
