Stop Gambling with Uwezo Fund; MP tells Youth


North Imenti member of parliament, Raheem Dawood has warned the area youth  against playing lotto with uwezo fund cash.

Speaking at Meru primary school during a function to award cheques  to different youth and women groups, the legislature said that the County Youth have resulted to gambling in order to improve their livelihood and as a result have ended becoming even more poor.

His sentiments were echoed by cabinet secretary for youth and Gender Cecile Kariuki who emphasized to the youth present that Uwezo fund  is  meant  for development not gambling.

The CS has also pointed out that the government is in the process of confiscating lotto machines popularly known as ‘MCHINA’ which has hindered development to young people in different parts of the country.

The leaders also expressed concerns over uncollected Identification cards that have overstayed at the Meru Huduma Centre.

‘The youth should collect their identification cards to help them vote  in the coming general elections for leaders  of their choice,’ said Ms Kariuki.

At the same event the CS defended President Uhuru Kenyatta over graft scandals that have hit the jubilee administration since taking power saying that the president has done his duty in the fight against corruption.

The meeting was also attended by Meru County Women Representative, Florence Kajuju and Buuri member of parliament  Boniface Kinoti Gatobu.
